Kobatoya has many items from Asuke’s culture and techniques. 

You will be able to experience these through our workshops, which are only available for those who booked to stay with us.

Tofu-Making Experience

Tofu-making experience in which you taste from body and soul.

You can experience making tofu, with our soy beans cultivated in the local area. After completing to make tofu and soy bean pulp, you will learn how to cook soy bean recipe for dinner using them. 

We hope you have a healthy, delicious, and refreshing time together.

Price : ¥4,400 (with tax)

Participants : 2-8 people ※First come, first served. ※2 if we cannot gather two or more people for the session, the workshop will not be held. 

Time : 16:00-19:00 ※ including dinner time ※ please click “Bookings” to check the schedule for the available workshop dates.

Location : Kobatoya 1st floor, open kitchen

Making Wood Plates

Experience real craftsmanship, and feel the tradition.

In the same way a professional wood turner makes wooden “Mamezara” and plates for bread, we will curve the spinning wood to shape them to our own. First, you will decide on the shape for the plate. Next, you will select from a variety of wood, such as maple, cherry blossom, chestnut, walnut and more. After you curve the word, we will paint it with oil. You can experience the professional process with us.

Price : ¥13,200 (with tax)

※ You will also need to pay ¥300 for the entry fee of Sanshu Asuke Yashiki, the workshop location.

Participants : 1-2 people ※ First come, first served.

Duration : 4 hours

Time : Starting between 9:00~13:00 ※ Please click “Bookings” to check the available dates for the workshop.

Location : Sanshu Asuke Yashiki.  Kijiya. (12 minutes away from Kobatoya)

Things to bring : towel, change of clothes, drinks

Clothes : We recommend you to wear windbreakers or anything with similar cloth. This will help you avoid having chips of wood on your clothes.

Please avoid wearing skirts shorts sandals or any clothes with wide exposure of skin. 

We also ask you to take off your scarf during the workshop. We also do not recommend wearing beanies, because these will be sticky with chips of woods. 

Precautions : we will provide you goggles during the workshop for safety.

There will be wood powders during our workshop, so we recommend wearing masks if you are worried with conditions such as asthma.

Experience Aizome on Socks

With a traditional method of making indigo-dyed cloth, create your very own Aizome socks in the world.

You can make your original socks using Ai that can be dyed in many different forms depending on the time. You may completely dye them with Ai, or design them with some patterns too. Let’s make memories in Asuke through our very own pair of socks!

Price : ¥3,850 (with tax)

※ you will also need to pay ¥300 for the entry fee of Sanshu Asuke Yashiki, the workshop location.

Participants : 1-6 people ※ First come, first served. 

Duration : 1 hour

Time : Starting between 9:00-15:00

Location : Sanshu Asuke Yashiki. Konya. (12 minutes walk from Kobatoya)

Things to bring : please receive your pair of socks at the front desk of Kobatoya, before coming to the location. 

Precaution : Aizome’s liquid will dye differently every day. The Ai May not be dyed as shown in the photo. We hope you understand and enjoy the changes of Ai color.

Experience Zazen

Face yourself in silence, and calm your mind.

Come to Koukaji, A temple in the middle of beautiful autumn leaves namely the “Kourankei”. We will experience Houwa, Zaizen, Sakumu, Chouka with the chief priest. By trying a part of Soutou religion’s trainings, you will experience to meditate and empty your mind and soul, which may bring you new and fresh perspectives.

Price : ¥1,000 + small tips for gratitude 

Participants : 1-12 people ※ First come, first served.

Duration : 1 hour and 30 minutes 

When : Every Saturday

Time : Starting at …6:00/7:00/8:00 ※ Time may change accordingly to the sunrise in seasons.

Location : Koukaji (15 minutes walk from Kobatoya)

Precaution : there are no items required to bring. Please come with less items with you. We recommend you to wear comfortable clothes. Please avoid wearing mini skirts.
